Appears to have INTEGRATED headrests, which would make it a '68. "67-69 all had round side marker reflectors, so you need to look at seats if visible to distinguish these model years: '67s were lowback seats, '68s had the integrated headrests (which these appear to be), and '69 had separate, "2-post" headrests. Late-69s also had real glass in convertible top, but you can't tell from this shot. |

The DVLA gives 1969 as manufacture year for that license plate: Date of Liability 01 07 2012 Date of First Registration 20 07 2011 Year of Manufacture 1969 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 1500cc Vehicle Colour RED If they car was restored, some details may have been modified -- Last edit: 2012-04-23 12:04:38 |

It may have been a '68 model that wasn't sold (in Idaho) until 1969. If the DVLA took the date of 'manufacture' from the Idaho paperwork it might then have taken the year of manufacture as 1969. In any case a G registration would have served for either. |

Possible indeed |

Integrated meaning no space between them and the top of the seats? |

Yes. At VW they came up around 1974, for the first Golf I and the Käfer Cabriolet. |

Then it's a 69 because it had the "two post" headrests. |
