Escape Limited Appears to have a rear differential, indicating it has automatic Intelligent all-wheel drive. The automatic Intelligent all-wheel drive system replaced the automatic ControlTrac II all-wheel drive system with the 2005 model year mid-lifecycle update. The Intelligent system was deemed superior to the ControlTrac II system, in that no input from the driver was required. Intelligent all-wheel drive featured a one-speed single range transfer box with an infinitely variable multi-disc center (coupling) differential. The system would continuously adjust the torque split between the front and rear wheels as well as auto lock for a permanent 50/50 torque split. The Escape was forced to make do with front & rear open differentials, with the exception of the center (coupling) differential. No limited-slip differentials, no locking differentials, and no 4-wheel electronic traction control. |
