Yikes! That's an odd car. A Mini would probably be bigger than that thing.

on the first picture is a Trabant 1.1 made to look like a P601, note the wheels and the B-style. On Ralphs 4. picture is an old P601, still with the thin B-style and on the FKK-pictures is a newer P601 with thick B-style

Filler hole on fuel tank is on the opposite side? WTF?

On my 81 Trabi, the hole is on the opposite side. I thought all filler holes were on the right side of the tank.

They used 12-13 different Trabants for different scenes. There were six stunt versions, two modified for filming, two really roadworthy ones, the one with the R4 hood and a roofless one. They were also from different years and had different colours (as you can see in the the following first thumb); one of the stunt cars (as visible in the main) was even a then new 1.1 that was also used for the premiere in 1991. This is probably the only one of the film Trabis that still exists besides the clourful car.
Above there is a part of a chassis number visible: since the sequence starts with an 'E' it's a replacement body ('Ersatzkarosserie') what means it isn't the original body and the basis could be quite older...

@130rapid Why 'S'? There wasn't ever an S badge visible and they said in the movie as well it is Standard trim...

Please note I gave 1980 MY at first and this car had 'upper level' dashboard, applied S or S De Luxe that time.
However (1) the Standard dashboard changed to modern shape (finally!) in April 1982.
However (2), despite silver door handles, the car on main photo (and most others in thumbnails) have 10/1983+ wheels and 2/1984+ wider B-pillars.

The thing with the dash was everything I'd like to know ;)
And since they used so many cars it is of course likely that there are older an newer ones such as the one with the replacement body.
BTW the film crew made a mistake: by plot the car must be at least from the early 70s since it's older than the 17yo daughter...
