1983-86 AE86 Toyota Corolla/Sprinter/Trueno (depending on market sold) : http://agartstudios.com/albums/AG_GTS/AE86_Gallery4_copy.jpg

In N. America (or at least in Canada) it was called the Corolla.

Yes, name depended on where sold Toyota Corolla, Sprinter or Trueno.

Well, given that there's a Grand Prix in the background, this is probably supposed to be North America, so it'd be a Corolla.

I believe the hatchbacks had the GTS badge so it's a Corolla GTS and the notchbacks were just Corolla.

The whole series is made in Los Angeles, including scenes supposed to be in other countries.

Maybe I should have done more research:

It appears that GT-S was attached to both body styles, but it was just a trim level (the highest on the Corolla I believe). I think the red notchback in the link is a '84 Corolla SR5 from the wheels and trim and this white hatchback is an '85 Corolla GT-S.

Exactly the same image used in episode 2.13 :D

Ok, I'm going to make the call on this one: Both are SR-5 Corollas. The redone in the link is a 1984 SR-5 coupe, with the upgrade aluminium wheels. The white one in the above picture is a later model SR-5 with steel wheels. Both are SR-5s based on that strip of black trim and 13" wheels. GT-S Corollas did not have the trim, and had the bumpers painted to match the body. Oh, and another thing: It's not a hatchback, we call it a liftback. It's just proper semantics.

Nice Pontiac in the background. Only moderatly interesting thing I see here actually.

Toyota is unique in using the word "liftback" instead of hatchback. Toyota's word makes more sense.
