1939 Ford Standard station wagon with a 4WD conversion - most likely by Marmon-Herrington.Here is a similar 1940 car which was part of a collection sold by RM Auctions recently - Link to "www.automotivetraveler.com"

I knew it was a 39' Ford, but I didn't notice the 4wd, but as I look now at the picture, I can see the front axle now. How common were such conversions? I'd like to see some more of them.

These 4WD conversion were being made through Marmon-Herrigton up until late 1950's/early 1960's where Ford started making in house 4WD suspension system.

There were several in that collection that RM sold.

The combination of V8 and 4wd on a 1930ies car alone is really amazing, but in combination with that woody-station-body it is just fantastic.
