This can be bumped up to 3 stars, as it is seen again in Episode 24 (and used quite a bit by a main character): ![]() |

With the same color scheme, uncommon brass radiator, artillery (wood) wheels (as opposed to wires)...I'd say it's the same car seen in "Summer Magic", "Wings of Eagles" and "Green Acres" and probably (due to it being a black & white film It's difficult to say with certainty) in "Lafayette Escadrille". It was painted white for "The Great White Hope" and kept that color scheme for "Powderkeg". After that film, it was used as a reference for George Barris to build his replicas for the "Bearcats!" TV series. It was sold by Pacific Auto Rentals to a owner in northern California and it's still in his collection. |

Can someone correct the year...it's a 1914, not 1913? |

I believe that you will find that this "Bearcat" was created from a Stutz touring car by the staff of Pacific Auto Rental in the mid 50's. The touring car was on display at the "Kings Of The Road" auto museum in Cucamonga, California on old Route 66 in the early 50's. It disappeared at about the same time that this "Bearcat" appeared. At the time there was probably no intent to deceive. It's just that they were in the business of renting cars to the movie and TV industry and there was a lot more call for the famous "Stutz Bearcat" than for a touring car. |

Fredrobspec...Right years later... I have recently heard that from someone else...but no proof either way. Some in the Stutz Club say all but a handful of existing Bearcats are cut down touring cars...I'm not sure I believe that. I knew the late owner (his family still owns the car) and he told me he got it at an advantageous price because of those rumors...also he said some confused it with the replicas built by George Barris for the "Bearcats!" TV series (Barris used this car as his model). It would be interesting to have an expert authenticate it...but the one guy who was THE acknowledged expert passed away in 2011. Even if it is a modified touring car, it has All the same pieces (engine, suspension, Stutz transaxle, basic frame) as a car that started out as a Bearcat, so at this late date does it really matter?I Also, this is arguably the most famous existing Bearcat...having been in many films...most of the 12-16 Bearcats seen here in IMCDB are this car (either red/black or after 1970, white). |
