Looks like 1975 or later... What does the script on the trunk say? |

I guess it reads 1303 1973-1975. In 1975 they had the front indicators in the bumper (maybe this is visible in the film?). |

That is why I stated it due that I cannot see the front indicator. |

The movie is situated during the extremely long and cold winter of 1963 (therefore "The Hell of '63"), so this car is a total anachronism! No points for the Art Department here ;-) The license plate is a fake as wel, MF would be from a small commercial vehicle |

And the back one for a VW Kever would be a square one, or? To mount the regular one-line-plates on the back of a VW (as on Fiat's of the 60ies and 70ies, too) was AFAIK usual in Denmark (and since the early 90ies in Russia), but not in NL. |

I even doubt if that's true, M is used for motorcycles... |

Not a 1303. Rear shock absorber visible, please compare swing axle rear suspension vs independent suspension, and it has a slight tilt of rear wheels as well. No 1303 front end visible either. Rather a 1974 1300, with indicators covered in snow? |

I think, the back wings are replaced with not really correct fitting aftersales market parts. The taillights are looking somehow distorted Expectable, when you choose the Mexican or Brazilian made repro-parts. |

OK, but if you look beyond the wings, or fenders, what about the bodyshell and frame? What is visible? 28 slots in lid. Black flow-throughs. Swing axle rear suspension. And some possible body repair. Indicators could be present on the front fenders, or not. So, either a 1973 1300 with newer taillights, or a 1974 1300 with a cheap body repair? |

@ingo? |

I haven't anything to add to your description. I only wanted to say, that the back wings are not original VW-parts, just some repro-stuff. P.S. @tore-40: can you tell something about this -IMO wannabe-faked "Standard Käfer"? Scroll down here: Link to "imcdb.opencommunity.be" -- Last edit: 2016-10-19 21:14:23 |

So, rather a 1974 1300 with the original but misplaced taillights, then. |

P.S. annother question to the expert /vehicle.php?id=959538 |

Besides the added indicators (also trafficators present, so body top is made before August 1, 1960, but the indicators would make it street legal today) it could very well be a 1959 Standard (brake-by-wire ended April 5, 1962), color Rock Grey was available. FWIW all the knobs are black, but I guess they actually were by factory. Standards were not often used in brochures, if any they were just drawings. |

@tore-40: thanks! I thought due the dashboard, that it's a newer car. |

That dash came with the 1958 changes, and stayed - except the 1303-based models, and some models covered with plastic - until the end. |
