Example of a good looking car, which is a rust bucket (but I feel sorry for this Escort)![]() ![]() Similar sad situation: /vehicle_228936-Triumph-Dolomite-1981.html |

In an article about the successor, the 1981+ Escort, I've read, that the plant, where it was built, was the worst and shabby one, with the most demotivated workers. The quality was really not good. Except the stone-aged technology inside, it was really known for the bad rust protection. Only Simca and Alfa Romeo were worse in that years. I remember that from the motor-magazine-articles I've read then. |

If he had kept this car til nowadays, he could have sold it to the rally boys for big money! |

I've an '82 Escort Mk3, and it's one of only a handful that has survived in this country. I have to say it feels very flimsy and badly put together, but I'm restoring it for its now rarity. That said, their is very little rust on it. |

@kazimann: my comment is meant fo the 1975-80 Escort. This had a real bad image. The MK III, as yours were better (but couldn't reach the image of VW and Opel either). |

@ingo: Could you please tell me which plant you mean: Saarlouis, Halewood or Cork? They all were known for "varying" built-quality. |

Halewood was the worst, as I've read |
