Ok but shouldn't we add Station Wagon, Combi...or somewhat to name it for difference with the sedan, because I suppose it had a special name for it |

well till 1982 (in US 1985) - they were called 244 for sedan and 245 for wagon. But since next years they are just simple 240s - without anything at the end. They are differed in categories |

Put it "Herrgårdsvagn", it's the original Swedish name for these. |

I won't, not because of this very typical swedish designation, but just because it's an american market SW Volvo. so we must know what it is named for USA |

Well, I reckon the chassis name was still 245, when the model name was 240, so maybe it should named like this: Volvo 240 [245] |

possible too.. - well DAF555 have pretty good knowledge about Volvo and US market - so I will wait for him to decide this BTW the same problem is woth 740 (760) - they were marked as 740 for whole production period, but the in VIN it is nicely differed as 744 and 745 -- Last edit: 2006-04-22 14:32:56 |

I think it´s enough to have the vehicle category correct, Wagon or Sedan, Volvo didn´t have a special name for their wagons between 1983-1997. They were just 240-740/760-940/960 or 850 officially. But people usually refer to the wagons as 745 or 855 still, the sedans are usually called just 740 or 850. In Sweden that is, how they are referred to on other markets I don´t know. I guess an american owner would say he´s got a 240 Wagon, but I don´t think it should be put in the modelname. It´s just a name for this type of car that could be used for any brand. In Sweden Volvo would like to call the wagons for Herrgårdsvagn just like BeanBandit says, but most people would say Kombi. Maybe we can do as BeanBandit suggests, put the 244/245 (and so on) into the chassisfield for the cars that just have the 0 at the end of the modelnumber. But I think it´s enough with categories. |

I still think it's a pity to have same designation for a Sedan and an Estate... And i can't believe that Volvo commercials didn't distinguished the Estate model from a Sedan ... (a chassis code?... how did the do for filling an order for ex? ) |

They probably did the same thing other carmakers do and have a field for "Body Style." For example, the Ford Taurus came in sedan and wagon form, but they were both called the Ford Taurus. People would just say they own a Ford Taurus when referring to sedans and Ford Taurus (station) wagon if they're talking about a wagon. |

Filmed in Holland, does that make sense? |
