◊ 2010-03-21 20:46 |
In North America, they're called Vanagon and it has the 1986-91 headlights. |

Uh oh, I get the hint that the camper versions were not called Vanagon but what you suggested earlier. |

I think he means the trim level should be Westfalia. Like this one: /vehicle_42900-Volkswagen-Vanagon-Typ-2-T3-1980.html |

Nonono, "Westfalia" was not a trim level, it was the manufacturer of the Camper-interior. O.k., AFAIK in America all VW-Campers were made by Westfalia (a private owned company, whch is bancrupted since a few months), as in Europe there were many others, too. The "California"-Camper-versions of the successor T4 and T5 weren't made by Westfalia any more, they were made by Volkswagen itself in the plant in Hannover. The loosing of the VW Camper-contract was one of the reason of the insolvency of Westfalia. Which is quite unknown outside of Germany: Westfalia was also a big producer of all kind of car-trailers and trailer-couplings. Westfalia mostly had taken the "Caravelle" or "Vanagon"-trim lever for the Camper-conversion. The first T3 Camper were indeed called "Camper". Some were based on the "Bus", too, but most common were the high trim levers. |

Today I saw a Westfalia Camper based on an early Multivan syncro. |

The 1986 model didn't have an aero styled urethane covered bumper, so it would make it either a 1987 or 1988. |

1987+ left washer nozzle moved to middle, 1988+ larger VW logo. |
