Weren' Volvos quite popular in the USSR as private Nomenklatura-cars? Recently I've read, that Volvo was, except Mercedes Benz, the Western car-maker, which had exported countable amounts of car to the Soviet Union. |

Maybe they meant Volvo trucks? |

No. Not only trucks. I've heard that too. |

Nono, I mean 244 and 264. I have some books, written by West German journalists about their times as correspondent in the USSR in the 70ies and 80ies, where this was mentioned. One of them had also wrote about the big joint-venture with Magrius Deutz in the 70ies. Annother one told the story, how a drunken Brechniev has totaled (in West Germany) the brand new Mercedes 450 SLC, a present of Mercedes Benz. |

I know, that he has totaled RR Silver Shadow. Not sure about his condition at moment...)) |

But the RR is still existing, or? A time ago there was a pic of it, from the car-museum in Riga IIRC. It was said, that it shall not be restored and kept in this damaged condition for historic reasons. |

Yes, that one. Still exist as wreck. |

According to some reports, this is not Brezhnev's RR and he didn't break it, but simply a tale to attract tourists. |
