Very cool scene with this '80 model 500 SE, with this jump. It also appear in two scenes - nothing special, and fortunately wasn't destroyed. |

The car pictured is a North American spec. series 1 W126 S-Class. No standard (or "short") wheelbase unleaded S-Class Benzes were imported to the U.S. during this time period (1981-1985). It's difficult to tell whether that's a long wheelbase model - but it may be - and if we're confident that it was a 500 series engine then it's a 500SEL. The only SWB series 1 W126 S-Class imported was the venerable 300SD. |

It's about a sterotypical hard to work with, hard to have a relationship with, burnt out San Diego cop who because of "only in a movie complications" partners up with a large police K-9 dog to stop a local drug lord. -- Last edit: 2008-03-01 04:39:12 |

500 SEL was available in U.S. from 1984-85. |

As my 2nd thumb shows, I corrected the model from 500 SEL to 500 SE. Is it still chassis code [W126] and is the MY still 1984? -- Last edit: 2014-02-17 17:20:27 |

According to NADA guides, the W126 500 SE was available in the U.S. from 1981-84. |

According to your pictures, this was actually a Euro-spec 500SE and not a US-spec one. Even though the headlights are US-spec, the bumpers are not. During the grey market era, it was very common for these Mercedes-Benzes to be equipped with US-spec headlights after being imported into the US. |
