It's quite common for older cars to appear in films where a European setting is being faked on location in the US or Canada. Only a small number of European manufacturers currently sell cars in North America, so producers have to make do with classic cars or recent models from manufacturers that do sell in the North American market (BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, etc.). -- Last edit: 2009-10-30 18:48:16 |

US-spec headlights, but still European indicators... as far as I know only between September 1967 and January 1968 (though I'm not 100% sure). |

The car appears only in this scene, just for the explosion - no more is seen than the preview video. Just before that it is seen from the inside... and I have doubts that it was from inside a DS. A car is seen in the rearview mirror (which was at the top - isn't it on the dashboard on all DS?), and that other car seemed a Peugeot 607 A wreck is seen later, but it was too fast, I do not know if it was this one or another one. |

it looks for me some kind of CGI... for me this making of video is not an evidence ^^. This tunnel has some thing of the tunnel where princess Diana died (its not the same, i know, it has different lights and wall ^^) |

It was not CGI for sure, it's quite noticeable when CGI is CGI, as Antoine says you see an inside view of it and a 607 following through the rear view mirror, when the car enters the tunnel it flips over, it was quite dark but I'd say that the interior was a DS as well, the wreck seen later was the DS too. |

The movie dialog mentions this is the exact same tunnel that Lady Di perished in. That doesn't mean it was filmed there. |

i saw the movie now, too. Really stupid that they suppose this tunnel to be the "Lady Di"-Tunnel, but this tunnel doesnt match (only the spears in the middle match...). :-( |

Hi im the owner of the citroen DS, true the car was film in the 2012 movie, film in vancouver canada, the car was film inside the underwater tunnel linking north vancouver to vancouver. There were actualy two 1972 citroen ds use, both were originaly blue and painted red because the colour Bordeau red look better in the tunnel, the reason for use of the tunnel accident is true its copying the Princess Diana accident conspirancy and it was also to show that the driver was ther curator of the Louvre in paris. Two cars were made identical, one for driving away and inside shots with the driver on the phone and the other just to blow up and flip. Reason one of the comments thought the car was a 68 ds is because of the lights, what happen is that the car had tried Twice to flit up with the aid of a canon in the trunk but the canon was not strong eanought because the car is too heavy and long in the front end, so there first two attemp at 2 in the moring had broken the headlights not to mention the front underneath valence and rear window, for the third and final attemp to flip the car they had flown from hollywood the next day the biggest canon they could put and finaly the car flip and yes most of the fire is not computerise but its from flam throwers hidden in the trunk also parts of the body had fake painted burn marks. All hydraulic sphere were taking out and suspension was welded because they fear the car would bonce out of control and hit the wall, the car was fuel injected and 5 speed transmission. my other Ds \\\" the none destroyed one\\\" is a standard transmission with a renault fuego open roof thing and the stunt car had a fake roof opening. The none destroyed ds i had rented a brand new black leather interior because my interior was blue and the stunt ds had nothing but massive roll bar everwhere. A funny part about the stunt car is that it took 3 month to make it run, it was in very pittyfull rusty shap, when i went to see the final product the stunt car mechanic showed me he had put new brakes and sadly i had to tell him what he replace in the front was emergency brake not regular stoping brakes and i also mention to his suprise that the roof was fiberglass and if the car landed on its roof it would burn the driver after a few chuckle the added a steel plate over the drivers head. More photo can be sceen and copied from my club facebook website call Orphan car club of canada, in that site you can see the two ds side by side after, you will also see all the work in making the stunt car safe, lots of pips and welding. The cost of shooting the DS\\\'s must of cost at least $50.000, my share was $9000 for the use of my car and the rest was for mecanics/rented tunnel/permits/staff/parts/ambolance/modidied car and purchase of stunt car ect. As for me i was paid just to rent my DS and have it painted from blue to red and they held the car for 3 month in case they needed it, and the stunt car they gave me it after a year in case they needed to re-shoot a partial scene with it. One funny note as i went to get my check to rent the car out i arrive in my girfriend peugeot 405 station wagon and they freak, as they could not find any modern french car in vancouver, they were force only to use the usual bmw or vw or mercedese but now decided to use the peugeot but looking at the film i dont recall seeing the use of her car but nevertheless she was paid. O and the reason for the mirror on top of the windshield i decide to put it there when i restored my cars years ago, so now the stunt car had to do the same thing as both car must look the same. The car sceen was film in september. |
