For the VHF-radio services of the Bundeswehr. The small roll in front of the roof is the extra heating. For starting it, you have to climb on the roof, connect a cable, hold a knob and pumping the starter gear. Sometimes it works then. When I've dome my army-services in 1990/91, we still had this stone-aged technology from the mid-50ies in use! It was incredible embarassing to see in the TV, what technology the US Army had at the same time, during the war in Kuwait. They had the radio-technology in a backpack and hold a laptop for firing the rockets. More technology in one US-back-pack than in complete West German truck with three soldiers. Uh, and there was no electronic stuff inside! Not even electric - it was electro-mechanic. Our chiffre-scrambler was based on the legendary ENIGMA of the WW II - but bigger and heavier. Finally I've failed my license for that kind of troops. I was too rebellious and nasty to the officers. I've said that it's a big piss-take to contend, that this cast-iron-scrap shall be actual technology, and that I canot see any sense to learn how to handle it. |

i've done my service 1984 - 1986 and three of this vehicles formed our comand post, what i liked the most, is the fact it has the same 6 cyl engine as the 220 sedan going 110 Km/h on the Autobahn |
