Star Chief? |

Star Chief had 4 chrome stars. This is either a Chieftain or a Super Chief. |

So how do we tell those two models apart? I've been looking up '57 Chieftains and Super Chiefs, and they both come as 4 door sedans and had that same style chrome trim. |

I found Tad Burness' American Car Spotter's Bible 1940-1980 at the 1957 Pontiac section and found the Chieftain doesn't have white paint inside the trim as Super Chief does. Comments? |

I found a brochure. http://www.oldcarbrochures.com/main.php?g2_itemId=69270 The 4 door sedan is the only Chieftain model that doesn't have two toned paint, which makes me think that the car in this photo is a Super Chief. |

I figured the two-tone paint job disqualified this a Cheiftain. -- Last edit: 2009-10-10 20:29:21 |

I thought rjluna2, DT83, and Ddey65 had established it was a Super Chief. |

Was it not an added-cost option for two-tone paint on the Chieftain series? That is the only question to be asked. |

Dialog in the episode specifically related to the Pontiac so maybe a star can be added. The bad-a**es driving it later claimed (at the police station) they had been cruisin' in a '69 Cutlass until Lt. Kojak called them on their bluff and identified them as having been spotted in a 1957 Pontiac. |
