They seem to like to stick together. I live in the Northeast and I rarely see any full size jeeps and then one day Ill see 2 or 3 of them. Still, considering 78 was the J-truck peak production year and less then 29,000 of them were made... Id say they are getting on the rare side these days. Especially the nice ones. Search google for 'IFSJA' if you want to learn more about J-10s ;)

When they go off road you see the speedometer as gear indicater-PRND21 yet when they hit the bridge and get out you can see a manual shifter also somtimes it has a windsheild visor and somtimes not

Yup, by my guesstimates they used at least 3 trucks for this film. The auto 82 seen in most of the shots is in a car museum (you can find the museum online via google). The truck with the brow/visor (making it a pre 81 truck) was used during the chase, and then of course the manual truck without the visor (post 81) was probably a non-runner used only for the crash into the wooden bridge and the drop into the street. I think I saw somewhere that they also had an 84 model that the studio kept.

Care to elaborate? I said "at least 3" and mentioned I think there was a fourth the studio kept. Did you count a 4th from movie clips? The ones I caught were the 82 used for most of the filming, the 78/79 used in the chase scene, and the 80s manual truck used to crash into the bridge. Where did you see the fourth?

i would have preferred it if they had the dodge get destroyed by the twister in the beginning and used the jeep for the rest of the movie

Neptune US

I would agree with that comment, as my favorite vehicle in this movie is the Jeep.
But having the Dodge Ram disposed of early on in the film would defeat the purpose
of primary product placement :D

The Dodge Ram 2500 was portrayed as the film’s "hero-car", so naturally its going to stick around for as long as possible.

Yes, but did you see how steep the sides of the ditch got? They would of rolled over sideways and end up getting caught in the tornado. But then again this is only a movie.

Neat Jeep, there are several I see around including a couple with the original style "Rolls"-like grille.

I read that the film crew bought this truck in Oklahoma off a used car lot.

The standard Jeep yellow at this time would have been Saxon Yellow, though since they prepped multiple trucks for filming, there's no way to know whether that's the exact shade.

Interestingly enough, the truck wears 1979-1980 style Honcho graphics, which were available in either orange or blue, depending on the color. Saxon Yellow trucks were available with either color, so it was actually possible to have a yellow truck with blue graphics, as this period photo shows: http://www.flickriver.com/photos/autohistorian/7186778772/

From having owned all three yellows, I'd go with the '81 color "Autumn Gold", As Saxon Yellow was '79-80 only and was more of a cream yellow, and sun yellow was 78 and before and was much brighter. The grill is '81-87, and the Honcho stripes are 1979-80. The cab of the truck shown most is a '81 and later, so I'd again go with the Autumn Gold.

There were 4 built for the movie. My friend currently has the '82 from the shoot. It was number 2. There is a stamped 2 on the front bumper. We take it to Wakita every year for the anniversary parade. The other survivor is in the Star Cars Museum in Gatlinburg TN. http://www.starcarstn.com/Twister.html Unfortunately, their information is incorrect about theirs being the last survivor.
We are planning a trip there in November to see what number is on that bumper.

There was no J30. It was the Gladiator & J3000, 1972-1988 It was the J1000/J2000 then the J10/J20.
The J3000 was gone after 1971

Hi! I’m working on a 1/24 scale model myself, and I mainly use enamel paints… I wanted to ask is there any way I can find the “Autumn Gold” color as an enamel?
