This one is a case for the experts. Without doubt, it is definitely a so-called "Ponton", and I even tend to the so-called "Small Ponton",built between 1952 and 1962 which would make it a W 120 or W121 then, depending on year and type/size of engine)with a four-cylinder-engine, either petrol or diesel. I might be wrong as well since it could also be the "Big Ponton", built from 1954 and 1960, either with the stright-six engine like 220 a(= W 180 I)or 220 S (= W 180 II)or 220 SE(= W128) or without it (= 219 aka W 105). All in all, due to the size/length of both the bonnet and the trunk, I would rather tend to W 120/121, which would make it a 180/ 180 D or a 190/ 190D. -- Last edit: 2009-03-25 19:42:22 |

No, no "Big Ponton". It has not enough chrome for that. |

So you would also say that it's the smaller one, the W120/121? |

Sure it's a smaller one. Except the 219 all 6 cylinder versions had double chrome strip on the lower part of the doors and two-part windows in the rear doors, and the 'small Ponton' indicators on the rear of the front fenders are well visible. There seems to be no chrome under the side windows, therefore a 180 [W120]. Looks like there are quarterlights in the front door windows: after April 1958. |
