This scene was a re-enactment of the attempt to murder Don Mackay that occurred at Jerilderie, NSW on the morning of the 12th July 1977. At the 1979 Woodward Royal Commission into Drug Trafficking, it was revealed that the hitman calling himself "Ray Adams" rang Don Mackay at his store on a ruse of having Mackay to do a quote at Jerilderie, 140km south of Griffith in an attempt to kill him but luckily for Mackay, he was busy with other business, so he instead sent his employee, Bruce Pursehouse (who borrowed Mackay's distinctive gold Ford Fairlane) to Jerilderie to do the quote. Pursehouse also brought his father-in-law as company for the drive to Jerilderie. When Pursehouse and his father-in-law arrived at Jerilderie, they parked outside the local post office and when the hitman saw that it was Pursehouse sitting in the Fairlane and not Mackay, he decided to abort the hit. -- Last edit: 2023-04-27 16:39:09 |
