It's a 1971 model, not a '69. |

This is most likely, a 1972 Lemans, & not a GTO or even 1971. It could possibly be a 1971 GTO that had been hit & damaged in the nose, but the front clip is without a doubt off either a "72 non convertible GTO" or a "72 Lemans with the 'endura' option". Since they only made 661 true 71 GTO Convertibles, and no 72 GTO convertibles it is probably a Lemans. On a 72 the grill inserts are recessed back as shown in the photos. On a 71 they are only recessed into the bumper about 3/4". Also, the "cross-hair" style chrome trim rings on the front parking lights were not used until 72. They can clearly be seen on the parking lights in the second photo. Also, both 71 & 72 GTOs would have a "GTO" emblem in the grill, & not the generic "Pontiac" emblem shown in the photos. It appears to also have 1972 tail-light lenses installed because true 71 GTO lenses have external vertical fins that would probably show up in the 4th & 5th photos. I think it's a 1972 Lemans with the Endura option, but it could be a wrecked 71 that was reassembled with the wrong parts. |
