ERF was short for the name of its founder, Edward Richard Foden.
Quote ERF was a British truck manufacturer. Established in 1933 by Edwin Richard Foden, its factory in Sandbach, Cheshire was closed in 2002, and finished as a brand by owner MAN AG in 2007.

E.R.F. Not like a French egg :D E.R. Foden was a member of the Foden lorry manufacturing family but set up on his own after a disagreement over building diesel-engined lorries.
