It's a Ford Granada! Not a Hyundai.

sonic_bang wrote Don't be fooled by the blue oval badge, despite wearing the ford badges and no Hyundai badges at all, all Hyundai-Ford products (Cortina, Granada, and one more model that I can't seem to remember the name) were promoted in Korea as Hyundai Granada... Hyundai Cortina... etc.

They were probably advertised as such but not sold under Hyundai brand, if it doesnt even have Hyundai badges...

And what? The Chevrolet Alero had Olsmobile badges (at least some did) but it was sold as a Chevrolet in Europe and we list it as Chevrolet...
btw what is the difference between "advertised as Hyundai" and "sold as Hyundai"?

The Chevrolet Alero had Olds badges but it had one in the boot lid that said "Chevrolet", advertised is just that on TV they could say that it was a Hyundai to attract people's attention to it, but then sell it with Ford badges and not making any changes... therefore it would keep being a Ford wouldn't it? but i said "probably", so it's something i just thought.

Not all had that, I guess they added it on later models.

On http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_XG the Hyundai Granada is listed as predecessor model, part of Hyundai models timeline:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Hyundai_cars

As these were first Hyundai models, it was not just to attract people with a well known make like Buick did with Opel or Chevrolet with Oldsmobile/Pontiac/Daewoo/...

Yes they all did, look a good example http://www.autoscout24.es/Details.aspx?id=140314200 Olds badges everywhere but Chevrolet on the back.

Perhaps when they added the Chevrolet logo to the front as well they stopped adding the "chevrolet" in letters, in case they did, since the ones i always see for sale have the "chevrolet" badge on the back.

I saw lots without Chevy badge on the rear...
edit: and anyway I still think we should list this one as Hyundai

현대 그라나다 = Hyundai Granada written in Hangeul, but I do not understand the rest of the text :D

It is already sometimes hard to find info on internet about some recent common Asian cars, so it is normal to not have much info about old rare ones :/

Well, about how to name the model, I knew there would be some interesting debates. That's why I posted it in the first place :)
The reason I insisted it being Hyundai Granada rather than Ford Granada is that it was built and sold as Hyundai Granada in Korea where the movie was shot. At the time, Hyundai's Ford products were their high range expensive models. I think Hyundai kept the Ford badges as they wanted to make the car look a bit more expensive and exclusive.. Well, I know Ford and words like expensive and exclusive don't go together but in the 70s and 80s Korea, they did.
If you click the dcinside website that antp provided, you will find a picture of Peugeot 604. Well, Kia, at the time, produced Peugeot 604( and Fiat 124 and 132). In Kia's case, they promoted the models as Kia Peugeot 604 or just Peugeot 604. Well, the Fiats were promoted the same way. And people usually called them as, just, Peugeot or Kia Peugeot. So, the brand names, Peugeot and Fiat, were merely used as model names by the Korean public.
@ carchasesfanatic: about your last question, antp is right on the money. I am not really sure about other Asian countries, but in Korea, it's hard to find informations about old cars from the internet. To be honest, it's even harder to see them on the road. Even 10 year old models are hard to find. I think Koreans are just a bit too obsessed with something new and forward to appreciate something old and classic. Everythings change so rapidly and often in Korea that stuffs old and second handed are disregarded pretty quickly.

BTW, the Korean blog with the photo containing front look of the car that antp provided, that's mine. I couldn't resize that photo, so I went with the back side photo.

Again, the Korean Granada has no Hyundai badging on it.

At least it can be renamed to Hyundai-Ford? 'Hyundai' alone seems too much.
