This is the second and final car used by the character "Scarecrow" (aka "Lee Stetson"), played by actor Bruce Boxleitner. His first one was a Silver 1963 Porsche 350 Convertible--as stated in the show...however, this may be wrong. The Porsche actually might have been a 1963 Porsche 356 B Cabriolet. Either way, it was destroyed in one of the episodes and he then acquired the Vette, which he used for the remainder of the show. In an interview once, Boxleitner stated that the old Porsche must have been the worst Porsche ever built, because they could never keep it running long enough to film a scene much of the time. He was glad to get rid of it and loved the Corvette. LOL!!

This pic is from Season 2 Episode 17: "Odds On a Dead Pigeon."

IIRC he later had an 86+ vette as seen by the 3rd brake light on the roof. maybe they just changed it and figured no one would notice.

Interesting, I hadn't noticed that before! The show was officially cancelled in the spring of 1987 because Kate Jackson had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had barely been able to finish filming the fourth season. So, this would make since if the year before they had updated "Scarecrow's" car to an '86 model. Perhaps GM and/or the Corvette division offered the use of a couple Vettes after they started using the original '84? But, this pic is definitely of the 1984 Corvette.

"Charity Begins at Home" is the episode featuring the demise of Lee's Porsche and aired on Oct.28,1984(2nd Season Episode 5). The 84 Vette is definitely in footage of the next episode "Brunettes are In". Several year cars were apparently used over the remaining episodes. It's common practice to have stunt cars and star cars anyway. I distinctly recall a scene when Mrs King's son is ogling Scarecrow's Vette and the hood is raised to reveal a Tuned Port Injection that was introduced in 1985 (the 1984 had a very different and distinctive Cross fire Injection). The center of the wheels on the 84-85 are black and virtually identical to the untrained eye(apart from minor machining difference of a "raised lip" on the 84 that was made by Modern Wheel and 85 were made by Enkei when the lip disappeared. The 84 also had wheel weights on the outside rims and GM later switched to putting them hidden inside the rim on 85. But likely they went through many tires and rims anyway so they may have switched them up. So the differences were so slight they may have even used an 85 as well as the original 84 before getting the 86. One hint to watch for to tell a difference may be watching for the downturned muffler tips on an 84 vs. straight tips on 85. One viewer on YouTube (StillLuvSMK)did a compilation of scenes and his footage clearly shows the wheels change to the 1986 silver centers that replaced the black ones on earlier cars along with the 86 brake light. So in any case there were several C4 Vettes used on the show. No doubt necessitated by the great chase scenes!

This is all very interesting info. The show aired from 1983-1987, and I grew up with it--it's one of my favorites. :) One of the things I loved best was Scarecrow's Corvette. ;) I'm sure several model years were used--most likely what they did is each year they switched up to the brand new model. The show was popular enough and fans liked his car...so they started with an 84 and probably ended with an 86. The show originally was to go longer than just four seasons, but Kate Jackson became ill enough with breast cancer at the time, that they had to end up cancelling it after Season 4. :/ If it had gone another season or two they probably would've used an 87 (and possibly an 88) Vette before it was all said and done.

Anyway, I know both episodes you mentioned and this is true..."Charity Begins At Home" first featured the 84 Vette. Never really cared for Scarecrow's Porsche...and Bruce Boxleitner didn't like it either! He said in interviews once that they could barely keep it running or get it started half the time...and they would have to film scenes many times over because it would either "stall" or not start. He was glad when production got rid of it and integrated the Corvette. :)

In Season 4, they use a 1986 model by the CHMSL on top of the back window:

2-tone silver over grey Corvette shows up periodically in distance shots (here in 2.16). Perhaps used by a second unit for filming the car in Washington DC?
