I love it!! Great pics too! edit: Fifth Gear - Vauxhall VXR8 vs. Lotus Carlton: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0x2xOj8Bzg edit2: Why is this car named 'Lotus Carlton Turbo'? It's just called 'Lotus Carlton' (if it's RHD, Lotus Omega if LHD). -- Last edit: 2008-04-23 23:20:03 |

Lovely car. Why can't Vauxhall make stuff like this anymore? WHY VAUXHALL?! WHY?! Sucks doesn't it? But good news, they realized the Signum was an stupid car and no one bought it; As a result they stopped making the Signum, HOORAY! -- Last edit: 2009-06-20 17:40:22 |

It's simply Lotus Carlton. They were all turbocharged. |

DVLA has it registered as a Vauxhall?? (not that they can be relied on for accuracy). The vehicle details for K948 XGS are: Date of Liability 01 04 2010 Date of First Registration 22 01 1993 Year of Manufacture 1993 Cylinder Capacity (cc) 3615CC Vehicle Colour GREEN |

The cars still kept their Vauxhall badging, but were marketed by GM as the Lotus Carlton. |

... magazine is a bit of an exaggeration - more like a comic ..... Does it have any articles with more than 30 words? |

I agree it's not the best. It is nearly as bad as the newspaper it shares a name with only without the Princess Di stories but after 15 years of readership I still buy it out of habit. |

Production #820; the final Lotus Carlton to be used by Vauxhall's press fleet and always in Vauxhall ownership (despite Perthshire registration), including its loan period to Autocar. Still frequently used for press and media features, so a slight surprise that this is its only entry. As far as I can tell this is the only Lotus Carlton or Omega we have in imcdb. -- Last edit: 2011-05-12 18:57:23 |

GS is Luton from 1974 until 2001 according to my source. -- Last edit: 2011-05-12 19:03:50 |

Thanks - agreed after I'd dug out another book, puzzle explained. Given the number of love-struck smileys on this page, there's an article on driving K948 XGS from Cannes to Geneva in the June 2011 issue of Classic and Sportcar (possibly the last time I reference this issue, but I'm only halfway through reading it...). Some things I did not know before which might be interesting: 1] intended production was 1100, but only 286 Carltons and 663 Omegas happened. 2] the engine used (3.6 litre twin turbo six) was the third choice - original idea was Lotus LT5 V8 (as used in Corvette, 5.7 litres http://www.zr1netregistry.com/LT5tech.htm ) - abandoned as too big to fit here. Plan B was a supercharged and turbocharged in-line 6 cylinder, capacity not stated - too complex. 3] The Lotus development number was [104] - may be useful if we ever get any Lotus Omegas here. And for the model fans amongst us, I think the total so far is an old white metal Carlton by SMTS and a very nice Spark resin Carlton from 2-3 years ago. But there's a new one from IXO for an Opel Collection partwork series in Germany and possibly France - not sure how much wider it'll be available, but several have suddenly appeared on ebay. Waiting for the postman to deliver mine, but pictures look good. Oddly it's an Omega with RHD - be interesting to know if this combination actually existed; previous RHD Opel discussions here accepted for porridge Vectras etc, but Lotus Omega a different level question. |
