we think of English cab ... maybe an Austin 12, model 1946 ? Link to "en.wikipedia.org" If I understood correctly, it was Will Overton who modified a Unic (french trucks) taxi base after ww1 then joined forces with Austin to create the famous London cabs ... -- Last edit: 2021-07-13 20:45:34 |

DXM 993 was London, March-April 1937. We have DXM 966 as 1937 Austin 12/4 Taxi Low-Loader - Jones Body |

In 1910 W O Bentley started work with the National Motor Cab Company in Hammersmith, in charge of the maintenance and repair of the fleet of Unic London taxi cabs operated by that firm. He then moved to H M Bentley and partners (his elder brother Horace) as the concessionaire for DFP. The WW1 Bentley BR1 rotary aeroplane engine was a Clerget with the bugs ironed out of it, so he got quite used to putting French designs to rights. The Clerget engines were averaging 15 hours’ service before failure, due to the piston ring design. One of his successes at the cab company was to work out how to stop the drivers fiddling the taximeters. -- Last edit: 2021-07-13 23:57:07 |

1st and second thumbs seem part of scene with main, but I think we have 2 taxis, comparing main and 3rd thumb. One has 3 little wipers, the other has none (sounds like the start of a nursery rhyme??) but does have an Austin badge in grille which I can't see in main. Plus other detail differences for things further back on the body sides. |

I'm less convinced about there being two different cabs. I can see one wiper and the upper part of the Austin badge in the main and the wipers in the fully up position in the second thumb. I have the idea it has elements of a Rickets body but far less than 50% certain, and they are possibly all the same taxi but the pictures are not good enough to say. However 1937 Austin 12/4 Taxi - Low Loader covers it. |
