Well, if Bentley’s have had to stoop to making something as plebeian and agricultural as an SUV, I’m sure MG can build a pipe layer. -- Last edit: 2021-07-01 20:26:42 |

MG has already made an SUV: Link to "imgd.aeplcdn.com" |

You have missed my point. An SUV is only one step up from a van, a vehicle for people who want you to think that they have “made it” and are “cool”. Why Bentley had to produce one of these things is a mystery only exceeded by the inevitability of Rolls-Royce building one. -- Last edit: 2021-07-01 21:10:53 |

Not at all. Pretty much every Japanese company started out making mundane household objects. Suzuki started with weaving looms: Link to "1cars.org" Mazda made corks. And Mitsubishi is in mining, shipbuilding, telecom, financial services, insurance, electronics, automotive, construction, heavy industries, oil and gas, real estate, foods and beverages, chemicals, steel, aviation... |

Start with corks and graduate to cars, fine. Start with the 3 litre and sink to the Bentayga, not fine. Do you now get the point? -- Last edit: 2021-07-01 21:13:23 |

Really? Have they amortised the development costs yet? |
◊ 2021-07-01 22:20 |
probably not.. but it brings people who otherwise would end up in a Land Rover dealership to buy a pricey SUV and being related somehow to some other VW/Audi products ( remember that Bentley is now part of the VW group ) probably saved a few $ during development |

Having owned a Bentley for 37 years, and visited the factory on several occasions, I do know a bit about their history and current position, even if I can’t tell one modern Bentley from another, SUVs apart. That must be one expensive factory to run, and I wonder how long VW would be prepared to bankroll a loss leader. From what I see in the Bentley Drivers Club website and members forum, quality and reliability, followed by the spares availability make some of the later cars quite challenging to own. Much as I would love to see Bentley turned into a profitable world leader, I wonder if all their products exactly meet what customers want. |

SUV are pretty much ( sadly in some cases ) what customers wants right now ( Ford killing about every car except the Mustang to build only SUV/pick-ups here was surely a good example of how the market went on ) . I guess that luxury brands just followed the demand as they saw potential clients going to the competitors showroom and coming out with a SUV . Lincoln, Cadillac, BMW, Porsche and Audi , now Bentley and even Lamborghini all now offering them in their lineup . Even if for now they " still holds out against the invaders " , i'm almost sure Ferrari will jump in at some point |
