Almost the same plate as this one. |

The FX3 Taxi has no door opposite the driver, there is an open compartment for luggage and the taxi meter. The FL1 Hire car has two doors at the front. These Spanish examples have 2 doors, why are they not classified as FL1? |

Indeed From the same consignment |

Oops good observer, I can not change them I am not an administrator |

I don't know anything at all about those cars, you already discussed about that, but you didn't arrive to a conclusion, that's why I left it just as "Austin" to let you Brits decide! -- Last edit: 2021-06-18 22:18:04 |

As far as I am concerned, 1 door FX3, 2 doors FL1, QED. |

I have been looking one by one all the Spanish Austin taxis and they all have 2 doors. It has its logic since when changing the steering wheel to the left you don't have to change so many elements ... So if @johnfromstaffs is right, some administrator should change all the names |

We've always used FX3 for the Spanish taxis, for whatever reason. When I've seen other references to the Spanish batches elsewhere, they're described as FX3. Also another distinction we use between FX3 and FL1 is whether the roof sign is present (FX3 - yes, FL1 - no), so there is a reason to keep to FX3. Whether this is a strong argument can be debated - my vote is probably to stick with FX3 because we're familiar with it. But if we want to change, a block update request to Sir Admin would be straightforward. |

Well, in that case, all the British 2 door vehicles must change as well, and we know that’s wrong. |

http://storm.oldcarmanualproject.com/austinfx31951.htm This appears to make the case that the 2 door version, even when exported, was the FL1. |

I therefore request consideration by the admins of a campaign change on the Madrid Austin taxis from type number FX3 to FL1. |

Currently I'm undecided. Exported LHD examples of the taxi would have been built as limited run special builds I guess. Random facts I believe... Export LHD models of the FX3 Taxi built with the FL1 bodywork. FL1 (RHD) had a larger turning circle at 35ft compared with 25ft for FX3 'Conditions of Fitmess' for London Taxis. For export, Taxi roof signs easily added and local taximeter arrangements were probably necessary. CM archive refers to a 1951 experiment with the Austin 'hire car' in use in New York as a taxi. All FX3 Taxis for the UK were sold through Mann and Overton Ltd. Provincial taxis in the UK, may or may not have been based on FL1 cars sold through Austin dealers but these would I guess attract purchase tax (20%?) whereas the FX3 taxi was (later in its life) taxed as a commercial vehicle, so could be less expensive. I think we may have one or two of these. /vehicle.php?id=959301 - Provincial taxi in 'Oxford' movie actually in 1958. /vehicle.php?id=74884 - Provincial taxi in 'Shadowlands' movie (1993) I guess I'm OK with the current situation with them all being FX3 taxis, and feel reluctant to call them FL1 taxis for exported LHD models, but cannot argue against a change. -- Last edit: 2021-06-22 11:05:13 |

My view is simplistic in extremis. One door FX3 Two doors FL1. I bet the works order said FL1! -- Last edit: 2021-06-21 12:03:17 |
