Black badge says AWD. Not sure whether these were just AWD or AWD Bedford . I think AWD still called them MJ . -- Last edit: 2021-01-08 21:20:42 |

Wasn’t there a clean break between Bedford and AWD? I think David J B Brown bought the Bedford design rights and hoped to continue the 3 tonner supply but MoD had other ideas. At the same, or similar period, GKND had to re-engine the Saxon partly because the 8-litre Bedford diesel was fading away, Perkins hoped to jump in with their Phaser engine, but again MoD caused an upset by going for the Cummins engine. That engine then replaced the Jaguar petrol engine in the CVRT Vehicles, and was also fitted in the replacement GS truck. It also wound up in the FV432 fleet. Cummins several Perkins nil. This seems to be the most complete account: http://www.military-today.com/trucks/bedford_m_series.htm Suggests 1987-92 and can be MK or MJ. Might also be worth checking if there are further AWDs lurking in the Bedfords? |

AWD MJ 4 tonners must have filled the supply gap between Bedfords demise in 1986 and the replacement Leyland DAF 4 tonne supplied from 1990. Loads of info on these data sheets but not the MAKE ! Cast means sold off. -- Last edit: 2021-01-11 22:57:50 |

31 years in service. I’d have expected that of an “A” vehicle but not a “B” vehicle. |
