Black badge says AWD.
Not sure whether these were just AWD or AWD Bedford .
I think AWD still called them MJ .

Wasn’t there a clean break between Bedford and AWD?

I think David J B Brown bought the Bedford design rights and hoped to continue the 3 tonner supply but MoD had other ideas. At the same, or similar period, GKND had to re-engine the Saxon partly because the 8-litre Bedford diesel was fading away, Perkins hoped to jump in with their Phaser engine, but again MoD caused an upset by going for the Cummins engine. That engine then replaced the Jaguar petrol engine in the CVRT Vehicles, and was also fitted in the replacement GS truck. It also wound up in the FV432 fleet. Cummins several Perkins nil. (Apart from Warrior)

Sunbar wrote AWD (Bedford) Limited was the company name and 'AWD' the brand name of the company that purchased the Bedford truck business and Dunstable factory as a going concern from GM.
edit: GM refused to sell the Bedford name but AWD included it in their company name as being the location Bedford rather than the GM brand.
...
edit: As seen here export versions were "AWD Bedford" but for brand ownership reasons, in the UK the civilian trucks were "AWD" only military trucks were permitted by GM to be badged "AWD Bedford".

This seems to be the most complete account: http://www.military-today.com/trucks/bedford_m_series.htm

Suggests 1987-92 and can be MK or MJ. Might also be worth checking if there are further AWDs lurking in the Bedfords?

AWD MJ 4 tonners must have filled the supply gap between Bedfords demise in 1986 and the replacement Leyland DAF 4 tonne supplied from 1990.

Loads of info on these data sheets but not the MAKE !

Cast means sold off.

31 years in service. I’d have expected that of an “A” vehicle but not a “B” vehicle.

Oops did not copy all of the cast date should read-

Date into service : 27/10/1989 Cast date : 19/11/2007

So they only got 18 years out of it .
