They mention as the first ever motor car. All the extremely old cars in this episode are from the Beaulieu National Motor Museum, which is near where I live.

You can look up each car the museum exhibits on the website:

Normally it's dated as 1886, not 1869...

I think this is a replica: http://www.beaulieu.co.uk/motormuseum/motordisplay.cfm?C=T

If the link doesn't work (maybe a page timeout thing), here's the details:

Benz ( Replica ) 1886
(of the original): Benz and Co., Mannheim
Nationality German
Capacity 954cc
Cylinders 1
Valves
Output
Max Speed 9 mph
Price New Not marketed

By 1886, Karl Benz had completed the construction of a tricycle, powered by a petrol engine. He drove the car on the streets of Mannheim at the same time as Gottlieb Daimler was testing an internal combustion engined motorcycle. These two pioneers are generally accepted as being the fathers of the motorcar. This working replica of the first Benz was made in 1989 by John Bentley of Batley.

Should we just list this as a "Benz"? Is "Patent Motorwagen" really a model name, or just a name for the first ever car?

Where did 1869 come from? Was it a typo? By the way the car was completed in 1885, 1886 was the year it was patented (on 29th January).

Sorry, that was a typo but they mention 1896 on the show.

According to someone on this forum, only 2 original Benz's still exist, all the rest are replicas. Link to "www21.sbs.com.au"

You are correct. This is not truly the first one (the first was made in 1885), but it is a replica.
