1958-59 Simca Vedette Chambord. UK plate/RHD? |
◊ 2020-03-01 03:46 |
AGU 402 was London, April-May 1933 .... The Chambord and Beaulieu were available in UK in 1958 with the Marly estate, but almost zero sales so very very rare. |

Or the scene was shot in Austria, and the image reversed. Those plates look rather fake to me. /vehicle_1356860.html |

Plates may be fake and it may be filmed in A, but footage looks genuine non-reversed during first 9 minutes here. One moment shows the Chambord badge in the rear flash the right way round. So I'm fairly sure this is a real RHD. |

Ooops .... Beaulieu badge. But it's the right way round. |

But the Beaulieu trim is noticeably different: Beaulieu --- Chambord Notice the chrome line that starts from the tail lights, it slightly goes upwards on the rear doors and then goes all the way to the front. On Beaulieu, that chrome line starts only at the front door. I think it's just a Beaulieu badge, but not the Beaulieu trim, unless this is a mongrel with the wrong badges and the wrong trim. -- Last edit: 2020-03-02 19:02:59 |

The badge on this supposed "Chambourd" looks as if it says Beaulieu .... |

Here's another one with Chambord badge, but the right trim: https://live.staticflickr.com/4555/38155024624_f6d9121bb4_b.jpg I've looked through every Beaulieu... /vehicles.php?resultsStyle=asImages&yearFrom=&yearTo=&makeMatch=2&make=simca&modelMatch=1&model=Vedette+Beaulieu&modelInclModel=on&modelInclChassis=on&mk=&origin=&madein=&madefor=&role= and every Chambord.. /vehicles_make-Simca_model-Vedette+Chambord.html and every one seems to have the right trim. However, this one doesn't make sense (neither is that picture which I've previously linked) -- Last edit: 2020-03-02 19:15:24 |

Maybe there was an upgrade to Beaulieu in later years where it gained the Chambord trim?? I've absolutely no idea about these Simcas and their sequences, only what I read in Glass's, which doesn't mention any secondary changes. Or - perhaps - Beauliu name was prefered in UK - it's a reasonably well known town in Hampshire, with Lord Montagu of Beaulieu famous for starting the National Motor Museum, so us Brits would recognise the word. Chambord means nothing to us - could be a smelly cheese ..... |

A couple of additional shots of the badge: |

It's still a headache this one.. It's possible that people/owners just preferred Chambord's trim so they've decided to add this trim on their Beaulieu's. As explained here: Google translated: Same thing can be compared in the brochures, from 1958 to 1960 (no use checking 1957 brochures since both of the versions were not produced in 1957 , and no use checking 1961 brochures, as Beaulieu was no longer made in 1961) https://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/SIMCA%201958.html https://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/SIMCA%201959.html https://www.classiccarcatalogue.com/SIMCA%201960.html -- Last edit: 2020-03-02 23:56:10 |

I've run out of steam here. I've found a small book photo of a RHD Vedette with partially hidden UK plate x4 SMF (= Middlesex, July 58 to July 59 "allocated in blocks"; until mid-59 Simca was distributed here by Fiat whose UK HQ was Wembley in Middlesex), it's carefully posed on a lawn with scattered dead leaves and leafless trees behind, so very likely an autumn 58 official publicity car/picture. No caption for trim level, badge in flash looks more like Beaulieu (with no high letter at the end for Chambord). And it has normal Beaulieu side trim, not the enhanced Chambord format. |
