Some NZ and Aus specification models, built in Japan, do not carry normal VINs with 10th digit MY. You can peruse some of my Toyota comments and check their VINs (no 10th digit MY).

JDM models carry a 10 digit chassis/frame number. Japanese built export models carry 17 digit VINs and some (depending on the market) carry a 10th digit MY; others do not.

This is why the VIN decoders are wonky. They are setup to decipher VINs with 10th digit MY. I have yet to find a JDM universal decoder for VINs without the 10th digit MY.
