1952 Citroën U23 by Georjon. One of only 2 built. https://www.flickr.com/photos/xbxg/28840486630/in/faves-38289621@N03/ Edit: that being said, the model name elsewhere is also called T23RU, so which one is more correct, because I assume U23 and T23RU mean essentially the same? https://www.flickr.com/photos/54410944@N04/47953873341 -- Last edit: 2020-05-25 13:46:04 |

Hello, I took the picture you shared via the second Flickr link (tautaudu02). Actually, the model was called Type 23 but evolved through the years. One of the versions was the Type 23 series U (also called U23) and in 1941, another one came in named Type 23 R series U (or T23RU) with a reinforced chassis (hence the letter "R"). The hearse used in the movie was based on a T23RU : it was made in 1952 by coachbuilder Georjon and delivered to the Ray family, who had a funeral home. It carried bodies in the city of Saint-Chamond in the Loire department. |

Good find, s13a! Both units built by Carrosserie Georjon of Saint-Chamondare, France, are seen on this page. The actual car that was used in the movie can be seen on the cover (and extensively pictured inside) of "Histoire des plus beaux corbillards hippomobiles et motorisés", released by IMCDb member lancelot, also known as "Docteur T23". |
