By 1950, BSA were no longer using the girder forks seen on this bike. That would have to be a non-standard modification. Also in brief view in the film, the name badge is longer than three characters. I thought I saw Triumph. That would also be consistent with the glimpse of the engine showing a chrome plated pushrod tube at the front of the cylinder block. This is Triumph practice. BSA A7s housed their pushrods at the rear of the cylinder block in a cast-in tunnel. My thoughts were that this is a late 30s Triumph. The Tiger 100 was blue with lots of chrome. The Speed Twin model was used very extensively by police forces throughout Britain for nigh on 20 years and they were maroon (Amaranth Red) as this one appears to be. I'd say a 1938 or 1939 Triumph Speed Twin. |

ERM 264 is a may 1941-> Cumberland plate so it's just possible the bike was built in late 1940 before the Priory St factory was destroyed on 14th Nov. Not sure if any girder fork bikes were built in 1945-46 ? |
