Chez nous on appelait cette voiture la 1959 Pontiac Parisienne, mais sur le marché à Hong-Kong, elle devait avoir un autre nom |

1959 Pontiac indeed. I tend to Catalina [2119], though I'm not sure. |

Pontiac sold in Hong Kong were again Canadian Pontiacs, because of the need to convert to right hand drive, so more likely Parisenne |

Just as in the UK, these were not big sellers so there were not a proliferation of models being imported. Because these cars had to be converted at considerable costs to right hand drive they had to appeal to the more luxurious segment of the market so that there would be a big enough profit margin o carry the cost. To be competitive in the luxurious market segment, the cars came with all the power accesories to distinguish themselves from the Daimlers, Jaguars and Mercedes, therefore only the most luxurious models were imported. Now, the name Parisenne would also evoke a much more glamourous image than a Laurentian. So a Parisenne was a more logical choice for the importer. -- Last edit: 2007-06-27 15:23:04 |
