:hello: I'm confused by our Superpoise naming systems. We have some listed as Superpoise followed by [Q2] or [Q4] which usually seem older pre-war styling, but includes newer postwar as well. Plus we also have batches as Q15/Q2/Q25/Q3/Q4 Superpoise with various mixtures of pre-/during/post-war dates and styling. Not asking for detailed explanations of all the different model names - I'd probably never keep up - just whether we're being consistent or need some cleaning to stop overlaps/duplicates??

I miss the NZ-Commer comprehensive website greatly (I think it was Redbeard's who has not been here since 2009, so fearing the worst!).

But I did get a lot of information before the site went down. After 1949 model year they introduced 'Series' letters for the new models, in addition to mark I, II etc also the Q2,3,4 etc. classifications continued. Maybe there is a better way to list them, I don't claim to be an expert but I will try to look at it, unless anybody feels they have a better understanding of the types. It is Rootes group I guess so someone must consider them worthy of recognition!

My immediate reaction on seeing the notes about the Superpoise model ranges was to raise an eyebrow at Diesel engines being offered in these trucks before WW2, but sure enough, the Perkins P6 was available in the late 1930s.

"Perkins Oil engines are offered on all models.." CM archive April 1939, but apparently little more detail which suggests to me they may have been introduced on Commers earlier.

The movie vehicle must be an S series Superpoise Mk.I or T series Superpoise MK.II/III

I think I can see the quarterlights in the side windows introduced in 1953 so Superpoise MK.II/III, T series (looking at the size of the body probably Q3 or Q4).

My old truck operator friend, brought up man and beast on Fodens with Gardner engines, hadn't much to say for Perkins, but each to his own and as said before, you could buy a couple of Commers for the price of a Foden. "Seddon with a Polly Perkins? Rubbish!"

This is interesting, though. Link to "sites.google.com"

I have renamed vehicles in the form

Commer (or Karrier) Superpoise Q(etc) followed by Superpoise Mk I, II etc Series S, T etc.

A few random remarks which seem to be either accurate or in common usage.

All 1938 to 1948 truck or van designs were Superpoise both Normal and Forward control.
After about 1948 Superpoise was generally for Normal control types (although I have seen Superpoise applied to the early QX in a CM article).
Chassis types for Series S & T continued to use [Q1], [Q2] etc.; however I have also seen [S1] [S2] or [T1], [T2] etc.
Chassis types for Series A and B all appear not to use the 'Q' designations.
The 1950s military 4x4 trucks all appear to use [Q4] or the 4x2 [Q2].
