Should be the 190 Ponton but I'm not sure |

I wonder whether it's even a 220 due to the lenght of the hood. |

The nose is too long, the rear door windows have quarterlights... It's a 6-cylinder version, most probably a 1954+ 220 [W180]. |

Was metallic paint originally available for the Ponton? |

Wow, that is a difficult question. All I know is that MB had problems making durable metallic paintjobs even in the days of the W116 and W123, so more than 20 years later. There was even a time in 1977/78 or so when dealers were forbidden to order more than 15% of the cars with metallic-paint due to both capacity and quality problems. |

Oh, so Mercedes Benz had the same problem as Volkswagen. For many years, up to the late 70ies, they weren't able to offer high-quality-metallic paintings, too. Surely a problem of the paint-company. No car-company produces own paintings and other chemicals. |
