Example of a good looking car, which is a rust bucket (but I feel sorry for this Escort)

In an article about the successor, the 1981+ Escort, I've read, that the plant, where it was built, was the worst and shabby one, with the most demotivated workers.

The quality was really not good. Except the stone-aged technology inside, it was really known for the bad rust protection. Only Simca and Alfa Romeo were worse in that years. I remember that from the motor-magazine-articles I've read then.

If he had kept this car til nowadays, he could have sold it to the rally boys for big money!

I've an '82 Escort Mk3, and it's one of only a handful that has survived in this country. I have to say it feels very flimsy and badly put together, but I'm restoring it for its now rarity.

That said, their is very little rust on it.

@kazimann: my comment is meant fo the 1975-80 Escort. This had a real bad image. The MK III, as yours were better (but couldn't reach the image of VW and Opel either).

@ingo: Could you please tell me which plant you mean: Saarlouis, Halewood or Cork? They all were known for "varying" built-quality.

Halewood was the worst, as I've read
