The 2000C and 2000CS were both introduced in 1965, in Europe. These were the very first of the popular big coupes; later came the 2800CS, 3.0CS, 3.0Csi, and the 3.0CSL. Only the 2000C and 2000CS, which were both 4-cylinders, had these distinctive flush-lens wrap-around headlights. In 1968, the 2800CS was introduced with the fantastic M30, "big-six". The 2800CS used the more common front-end: round quad head-lights and a blacked out grille, and the turn-signals/parking lamps were now on the edge of the fenders. The car you see above is either a 2000C or 2000CS. The public wasn't sure about the 1st design of the front-end, so in `68 it was changed for the 6-cylinder cars, and in `69 the 2000C and 2000CS were at the end of their life. So `69 was the last year this unique front-end appeared. The 2000C used a 2.0L I-4, single carb, producing 100hp. The 2000CS had the same motor, but had twin carbs., producing 120hp. |
