Morris is mentioned in the second link as being the chassis of the Pye vehicle.

“During the mid to late ’50’s, the Pye Morris based scanners were delivered to Turin, Switzerland, Denmark, and here’s one in Hungary:

^ "The Mobile Control Room is based on a batch of four Bedford vehicles put into service in 1954.", but I've also seen it described as a Commer.

We have several 1955+ Morris FE OB vans built by Papworth, but none apparently in BBC costume.

I should have checked my Dinky Toys book. It’s the Mikansue comprehensive tome so it should be in there.

I always thought of the BBC / Dinky model as being either Bedford or Commer but this descriptions seems to be a somewhat reliable description here as being a Bedford... https://www.bbceng.info/Operations/studio_ops/studio_ops_top.htm

BBC MCR (mobile control room) unit based. "The version modelled by Dinky was on a Bedford chassis. They were probably the Bedford S but were known as "the big Bedford". A batch of four of this design were put into service in 1954 with bodywork by Marshall of Cambridge."

edit "Marshall Motor Bodies, Lid., Airport Works, Cambridge. THREE camera units are housed in I the Bedford 7-ton van built specially for the B.B.C.'s outside television broadcast service. Access to the interior is gained by a door at the rear on the near side or two full-height doors immediately behind the cab, which is built integrally with the body. A sliding panel in the roof enables a camera to be operated from the roof which is provided with a rack. A light alloy ladder provides access to the roof from the interior." CM Archive September 1954 (no pictures but a good assumption these were the BBC / Dinky vehicles. ) Link to "archive.commercialmotor.com"

The Karrier Bantam "Roving Eye" built by Mickleover Transport, Ltd. (four built in 1956) as here https://archive.commercialmotor.com/page/26th-october-1956/57 and the Bedford RL (or QL?) 4-wheel drive as equipped to relay television programmes are well known.

Within 20 years of the Dinky trio, the whole caboodle could be contained within a single Citroen Safari
[Image: citroenukadvertb.jpg]
- with the Citroen suspension apparently providing uniquely smooth travel without any camera vibration

... first a DS with trailer
[Image: dscf4668candc.jpg]

... and then a CX with trailer no longer needed
[Image: matrixcx.jpg]

Both models in 1:43 by Matrix and are absolute stunners with incredible detail, such as the rear-facing control desk in the back behind the panelled windows. However they're both incredibly fragile - bits spontaneously fall off at the slightest excuse, particularly for the DS, so 60 year old Dinky engineering for "rich kids" was more successful.

fred1969, there is an earlier, complete view of the complete vehicle but from the same angle.

Also more Army Bomb Disposal vehicles in previous episodes?
