SS1 started off with 1.3 (upgraded to 1.4 in mid-87) and 1.6 UK Ford engines, then in June 86 added a 1.8 Nissan turbo which had this alloy design, and I'd guess would be an easier fit for homologation in J than the Ford engines. However the Nissan version also had an add-on boot spoiler which is not fitted here. My guess is this is a Nissan version, brand new for film date, but without spoiler possibly due to J regulations. Books say that apart from the spoiler, alloys, and a small boot badge the versions were externally identical, and grey cloth interior with red pinstriping also shared across them all. |
