Registration KV 9478 on tail means "1934 Le Mans: Riley MPH Six Racing 1458 cc, chassis 44T-2128, reg. KV 9478 (Freddie Dixon / Cyril Paul; Riley Motor Co. Ltd.)", #28, finished 3rd from here (scroll down) Things then get messy, because while there is a blue Riley sporty racer today with KV 9478, it's something different - apart from maybe looking smaller I'm not sure how to explain it - plate info gives We've identified this vehicle using the details you provided RILEY 6/12MPH RACING UNKNOWN 1934 Registration number: KV 9478 Body type: Sports Colour: Blue Date of first registration: June 1934 The 1934 MPH with chassis 44T-2128 is reported as dismantled in 1935, with the chassis reused for a new very different racer - a TT Sprite, AVC 19 (within a batch of various factory racers AVC15 to AVC20) and for sale in North Yorkshire some years ago. Since then AVC 19 has regained "the original 1935 body" so looks different now. So one car seems to have become 2 - the chassis reincarnated as AVC 19, and maybe other bits survived the dismantling and became the basis of a recreation, which DVLA have presumably accepted as having enough authenticity to retain or regain the KV 9478 plate. At this point, I'll wave a white flag - my brain hurts and I need a lie-down. And I don't want to create a situation where lawyers could decide to pounce. Any Riley guru is welcome to take up the story ..... |
