It could be an Armstrong Siddeley Long Twenty or Thirty ( but the latter are rare) ca 1933-34,roofline , rear end and suicide doors match ,what bothers me a bit is the rear mounted spare as far as I can see here .Usually pictures of these cars show a left sidemount |

True. But the road wheels are distinctive, and there appears to be a sphinx mascot on the radiator. I would imagine that on a car of this quality there would be customer-driven variations. |

My grandfather had an Armstrong Siddeley Long 20 - purchased circa 1936. The object at the rear is not the spare wheel but the luggage which was carried externally. There was a hinged flap which folded down to form a platform on which the luggage was placed and covered with custom heavy duty sheets secured with webbing straps attached to securing points. Although the covers in the photo seem to have become loose - sack the chaffeur! |
