 Most likely an Australian Built Desoto Diplomat sedan. Single piece windscreen would indicate a 53-54 model. 52's had split windscreens, and 55-56's had hooded headlights.

 Looks more like a Plymouth than a DeSoto so I am going with a DeSoto Diplomat which was Export Only version. As to year, I would say 1954.

 A 1954 DeSoto SP25, built in Adelaïde, South Australia. Abouth the trim level, there were the Diplomat, the Diplomat DeLuxe and the Diplomat Custom.

This one could be a DeLuxe

 Model origin maybe Canada?? And surely 'built in' Australia. My grandfather had one of these from 1958 until 1970, though his one was a 1956 Diplomat Custom. It was one of the first cars I drove. It had the 230 six and three on the tree. The contemporary Dodge Kingsways sold here in NZ were built in Detroit but, yes, the De Sotos came out of Australia.

 I have recently became the owner of and Australian Diplomat Custom ( SP25-2-1024 ). The car is only a different colour from mine, but other than that it's the same. From the number plate the car is ( like me ) located in South Australia. The writing on the side is to short to be a Custom. The SP25 was made in S.A. from 1954 to 1957
