Tail lights are wrong for a 1965 - 1966 Pontiac Tempest GTO ? [edit] Now that I look again, I wonder what all that long writing across the back is? -- Last edit: 2006-03-20 20:15:13 |

1966 Pontiac Le Mans GTO, the writing says Le Mans GTO |

Ah, to have young eyes again However, my books say that GTO was a Tempest (series 242) and the LeMans was also a Tempest (series 237). If its a LeMans then its not a GTO. -- Last edit: 2006-03-21 00:47:56 |

1966 Pontiac Lemans, the lettering acrossed the back spells: P O N T I A C http://www.hemmings.com/images/dealers/autogall/hires/7223e3.jpg The chrome panel behind the PONTIAC on the rear was part of an optional appearance package, according to a 35 year veteran of Pontiac sales (a friend of mine) -- Last edit: 2006-03-21 03:51:20 |

No worries - I once put two cars of different colors as the same and had to find a red face smiley |

LeMans became its own model in 1965, so "Tempest LeMans" should be incorrect for this year. |

1966 Tempest Custom, based on the rear trim and trim along the beltline |

This car is a '66 Tempest Custom convertible. The lettering on the back, below the trunk deck lid says, "P O N T I A C". The emblems on the rear quarter panel have script "Tempest" with a smaller emblem below that says "CUSTOM" in block letters. Not that I have sharp eyes.... It's just that I've owned one for 35 years. :-) |
