1st Boys-Band in music-show-business history. Watching with envy at The Beatles success, americans tried to build a genuine US equivalent group... but who remember the Monkees nowadays? :D
Some nice oldies in this film, unfortunately there's not any pictures of their special MonkeeMobile Pontiac GTO, I wonder why they didn't use even a replica? too low budget possibly ...

Me at least. Some excellent pop songs, great for cheerful driving music.

I have to concur dsl. It was indeed a bit more, as you are usually expecting from a casted one-hit-wonder-band: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monkees

Just a half, little step to off-topic : I'm really pissed since some weeks, since one of my favourite driving music-CD is getting lost  Link to "www.musicload.de"

@dsl and ingo: Come on; first of all, they were a Don Kirshner-product. Neil Diamond wrote lots of the songs, and at first professional session-musicians(like the famous "Wrecking Crew") recorded the songs, not the Monkeys themselves. They are a very early example of over-the-top commercialisation.

OK - a totally artificial creation, but the music was good and still enjoyable today. Nesmith's later solo stuff is worth trying as well.

Well, Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork were serious songwriters. I think people forget that. And as much of an artificial creation as they were, they had a genuine musical influence on more bands than people realize.

The Jonas Brothers were adopted by Disney, rather than created by them, unlike Big Time Rush, which is as much of a fake band as The Monkees.
