This is a 1929 Duesenberg SJ, being followed by a 1930 Buick - cars that are completely incompatible with a movie set in 1922. See more here: Link to "jerrygarrett.wordpress.com" |

Here is a blog featuring probably all of the cars used in the movie http://musicnewsaustraliadotcom.blogspot.com/2012/02/great-gatsby-movie-set-classic-cars.html As well as this panoramic picture: I saw this movie on Mother's Day yesterday and I was able to point out some of the post-1922 cars, and it's because of those anachronisms that I like to think that this version is set in 1929 rather than the book's 1922 setting (it does make more sense to feature the Duesenberg and all the others.) |

I saw this movie this afternoon - it was released here on 6 June. I agree that even though it was supposed to be 1922 most of the cars date from later than that, probably because most 1918-1922 cars are not very exciting to look at. The Duesenberg should be listed as a 198? Duesenberg II as there is plenty of evidence that it is not the real thing. -- Last edit: 2013-06-10 10:40:48 |

This yellow Duesenberg is not a real deal for sure. It's a modern replica or a Duesenberg II. |

Two cars used in the production are currently advertised for sale here in Australia. One is a 1930 Ford Model A sedan painted as a Yellow Cab Co. taxi that looks like the 4th car in the production picture above, and the other is a 1924 Dodge roadster which doesn't appear to be in the line up. -- Last edit: 2013-06-29 05:59:48 |

With the DVD due to be released in about 27 days, I have pretty much found another site featuring a few the cars used in this movie, it may prove a valuable information: http://www.vmc.org.au/our-gatsby-cars.html |

Now that the film is out on home video, it is a good time to check any behind the scene featurettes and deleted scenes for some extra cars. Some unfinished Model T's in a deleted scene: Pre-visualized taxis: Anyone care to identify these cars?: I have also found out that the Kemp Auto Museum in Chesterfield, Missouri appears to have supplied some of their cars for the film: Link to "chesterfield.patch.com" Overhead shots of the cars at Gatsby's party as well as two other unlisted vehicles: (Behind the Studebaker): (the 30 Buick again?): -- Last edit: 2013-09-08 18:05:31 |
