I live not far from the Joliet Prison, which has been closed since 2002-

I remember seeing a late 70s GM full size station wagon during the scene where they first start letting them know about their gig

I found the HD quality of this to be good, not great. Only a little better than the DVD. I wish they had done a better job with the transfer, as they did with "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" (which I also updated recently). The quality on that is so great that it almost seems like it was filmed in HD back in 1963!

Was it the one next to the Mark V?

"It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World" was 70mm vastly superior to anything you could hope to have at home.

The Blues Brothers, on the other hand, was filmed in open matte 35mm, meaning that the projectionist would be instructed to mask the top and bottom of the frame to achieve the intended widescreen picture:
Quote Aspect ratio
1.33 : 1 (negative ratio)
1.85 : 1 (intended ratio)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080455/technical

Because of this, the Blu-Ray version is a high definition transfer of only part of the frame, like a photo that has been cropped and enlarged.

Just added the 1979 Newport being used in one scene as the Bluesmobile.

How long does it usually take for a vehicle to be validated?

That's a scene of the movie? It is strange that G-MANN and others would have missed it. Can you provide more details?

This is it /vehicle_486193-Chrysler-Newport-1979.html

Hard to believe it was missing. Maybe there's some mistake?

It looks like it is, but the license plate is wrong, and so is the speaker. The plates used were always BDR529 (Black Diamond Riders of 529 Jarvis Street, Toronto).

If you look carefully, the passengers in the front seat look nothing like Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi.

You can also tell they're not the same car throughout the film.

Centre trim piece present, complete DODGE badge.

Missing centre piece entirely.

Centre piece present, missing second D in DODGE badge.

Plus the rear window is shot out early in the film, yet it reappears and disappears afterwards.

I don't think so maxman, it looks like it's from an amusement park or some back lot studio, with some impersonator actors: Link to "www.bluesbrotherscentral.com"

This pic is from the Universal Park in Orlando/FL. But an older one. Now they have this -also unoriginal- Blues Mobile: Link to "forum.imcdb.org" In front of the building in the background on the pic maxman has linked, stands now the "Back to the Future"-De Lorean (if original or faked, I cannot say)
All the Blues Brothers-stuff at the Universal Studios is poorly and loveless made  Not more than a cobbled sidekick.

Btw.: what a car they use now for that show?

Yes, that would be why the license plate is completely wrong, and it doesn't have the right speaker.

For the record, this is what the speaker looked like.

Right after the Checker. I'm thinking Buick Riviera, or an older Lesabre.

The one after it is definitely a Chevy Monte Carlo. Looks pre-'77.

@mustangfan65 - Please do not re-submit pictures that have been rejected, the 3 cars on the TV belong in the comments

I've heard the cars parked outside the Dixie Mills Mall were borrowed from local car dealers, & the films crew were very careful not to damage any in the chase stunts as they all needed to be returned in the same condition.

Oh my bad, sorry about that. If anything, I'll reupload these pictures in the comments, but this time in a better quality, as these pictures were taken from a camera. I know they're not worth listing as they only appear for a second or two, but I figured they might be worth mentioning nonetheless.

During the dispatcher scenes, there are a few TV screens where a lot of other Chicago Police vehicles can be seen. Thought these might be worth a mention. :)

In the first scene, there are two black and white screens, where I could make out several more Dodge Monacos/Royal Monacos, likely the cars used in the Chicago car chase sequence. Also on the right, there appears to be a 1979 Chevrolet Impala 9C1 as well.

[Image: img_9612.jpg] [Image: img_9613.jpg]

During the second scene, there is a colored TV screen on the bottom left where a few more CPD vehicles can be seen as well. These are the vehicles I think I've been able to make out:

Two 1979 Chevrolet Impala 9C1s
[Image: img_9618.jpg] [Image: img_9615.jpg]

A 1976 Dodge Monaco or 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco
[Image: img_9614.jpg]

A 1978 Ford Fairmont
[Image: img_9616.jpg]

A 1979 Ford LTD II
