I forgot, there was 2 or 3 things in GDR, that were better than in West Germany?

Actually I remember just one thing: strawberry yoghurt.

There is only one type of yoghurt worthy of consideration, and strawberry is nowhere near.

My parents said the strawberry yoghurt was a little bit strange. And there were only two to three things? The french fries should have been better. Books were included in silk. And nice but slow vehicles and motorcycles with special regulations today. But the Berlin wall, stasi and NVA were a bit shitty, I think...

Was there really a West German-spec Wartburg and was it in any way different from the GDR version?

--

I think Ingo meant that about the license plate, not the car itself. There's a West German plate hiding behind the main plate.

Really? I don't know. The last Wartburg version was buildt between 88 and 91 and stayed origin DDR, I think. But in 60s or 70s gave it an English verion (Wartburg Knight), a West-German and a Belgian version, but always origin DDR. Only doffernt in name?!

Ah, but the GDR plates were outputed to 90/91 I thought?

The movie is set in the past. They used an old car for DDR scenes and didn't bother to remove the plates and just stuck DDR plates over the current ones. This is how I see it.

No, there was never an export of the Wartburg 1.3 to West Germany and after the unification there weren't made any changes or facelifts.

The DDR-plates were outputed on the 2.10.1990 and could be used until the 31.12.1994. Then every former DDR-vehicle had to have the new registration.

 hmm, I cannot remember DDR French Fries...
Are your parents grown up in the DDR? If in East Berlin, did they know, that there was one fast food restaurant over there, similar as here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xICWmQbWT0I
made with used McDonalds-stuff from the West?

My mom says, the fries in the outdoor swimming pool in Gera in the 80s were delicous, so it must be right...

Nevertheless, some modern russians now believe that the DDR was a paradise on earth.
You can catch the butthurt of these commies here: https://ru-klukva-ru.livejournal.com/1852602.html

frankly all the models communism, capitalism etc suck because one simple thing, the guys on top of it are too greedy and power hungry

The reason is maybe, that for the Soviet soldiers, stationated in the DDR, it was indeed a kind of paradise.

This happens only in East Germany. When the kids are indoctrinated by their "red socks"-parents or -grandparents, which cannot overcome the total collapse of the beloved DDR and the socialism generally.

Dont forget that reputation of DDR products was very high in SU. It was more than decent quality due socialistic standarts. Clothes, furniture, toys etc.

Of course the NVA kept also "traditional Nazis" in their staff. Annother life-lie of the DDR.

But you only got the second or even third choice quality of DDR-goods - the premium choice stuff was exported to us in the West. Nevertheless DDR-products didn't had a good reputation over here. It was cheap, maximum middle quality. It was not really bad stuff, but just the very low prices caused the bad reputation.
Things, which were high-priced premium goods in the DDR, were flogged in West Germany. This goes for food, household goods up to cars.
The Lada 1600, later the Nova, was the highest officially reachable car for a common DDR-citizen - in West Germany it was the second cheapest car on the market after the Skoda 105/120 (which was the second premium in the DDR).

Guys like Ruge and Trettner were more acceptable?)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heinrich_Trettner I presume? Which Ruge do you mean?
Anyways, my point with the life-lie is something different: it was one of the DDR-life-lies, that they don't have any Nazis, nor old, nor neo- in their country. This was of a lie, because anywhere in both parts of Germany there were old Nazis after 1949. And of course they built up the post-war Germany, in West and East.
And yes, in the 1980ies the DDR had a big problem with neo-Nazis, skinheads and hooligans. But this was officially concealed until the end. And beyond the end, too: still today many East Germans deny, the Nazi-problems in their country. The point is, that in East Germany the Nazi-problem is much larger than in the West. It was so all the time since 1990.
One of the reasons, why the German nation is mentally still divided in East and West. A bit comparable with Vietnam: there is still a mental division between North and South.
