A rather solemn William Shatner addition to the site; a 1978 made-for-TV disaster movie based off of the real-life crash of Eastern Airlines Flight 401 which occurred on December 29th, 1972 shortly before midnight. The NTSB determined that the crash was caused due to pilot error; the cockpit crew was distracted by a burnt-out landing gear indicator light in the cockpit and did not notice that the auto-pilot had been accidentally disengaged. The aircraft veered off course and went into a slow unnoticed descent which wasn't discovered until less than ten seconds before the plane crashed into the ground at 227 miles per hour, having dropped nearly 2'000 feet in two minutes. Of 176 people onboard, 3 out of 4 cockpit crew, 2 out of 10 flight attendants, and 96 out of 163 passengers sadly lost their lives in the crash :( May those unfortunate victims rest in peace :(

Two three-star helicopters used during the search and rescue.

This movie was retitled The Crash Of Flight 401 for it's home video release. I went with that title instead of the original "Crash" title since there's already seven movies listed on the site with that name, four with exclamation points.

Yeah, those ghost sightings were also made into a TV movie the same year as this, The Ghosts of Flight 401. While reports of the ghost sightings are okay, I find it morally disgusting and extremely disrespectful that a major network exploited plane crash victims who left behind grieving families to make cheap entertainment. This was only six years after the fact so everybody involved should have done some serious room reading.

I remember watching that one when I was a teen (I read the book as well), it wasn't semi-horror but it was creepy.

Me too ...
The only memory was this unhurt black man in perfect three piece suit lost amist the swamp and only concerned that his watch had stopped (*).
First time I was facing the concept of denial (I'm still unable to understand this...).
Otherwise, a forgotten movie.
(*) reality was different : no one was unhurt. Only 17 suffered minor injuries that did not require hospitalization (176 on board). That's what the director called "characters fictionalized for the purpose of dramatization" ...
