If a year can be corrected later, I don't really see why it can't just be added later by someone who can definitively say what year it is... Rather than specify an incorrect year just for the sake of specifying a year, is it not better to just have the correct year put in by someone who knows? I'm putting the years in where I know them to be correct, or can confirm them via rego details. My detailed knowledge of post-1985 stuff is limited - I can tell the difference between an EF and EL Falcon, I can't tell the difference between a 1994, 1995, and 1996 EF Falcon. You're requesting a level of expertise that I simply don't have. I don't understand why. |

Sorry Keats. What I'm saying is - just add the default year (for EF Falcon, for example, it would be 1994, and for the VS Commodore, 1995). You don't need specific expertise to do this. If you leave all the years blank, it is a lot of work for us to go through all the cars and add the years. Most people on this site don't know much about Australian cars (or care too much), which means most of this stuff ends up being left to me to do. And, since I'm not a mod, I have to post a comment, and then the mod has to make the change, so it's twice the work compared to if you added the year yourself to begin with. -- Last edit: 2019-04-02 14:58:49 |

Ah, OK - sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. So, if I don't know the actual year, just list the release year of the model instead? I'll do that from now on! |

Um .... not sure if that's a good idea. If the my is filled in, it implies someone's made a definite identification (not a default). And people tend not to look at a page which is apparently complete, so it gets less attention. Leaving the my blank until it gets a definite ID seems more sensible. If some Aus models are updated annually (or maybe every 2 years) and the model code changes each time and can be securely assigned (and we seem able to do this fairly well for Falcons and Commodores), it's probably OK. But am uneasy about making this a general policy. |

I agree, there's a lot of "bad" IDs that result from people just defaulting to the first year of a long range they think it can be. As an example one of the other admins keeps defaulting Series 3 Jaguar XJs to 1979, when in reality they can be quite a bit newer than that and there's not really a good reason to give them a year when they can be pulled out as a set using the [Series III]. |

Try putting a year of manufacture on a Morris Oxford Series VI if you can’t see the number plate. |

Noted. I may be responsible in some cases - every so often I try to diminish the pile of simple XJ entries into something less sprawling. Will be more cautious if/when I dabble again. |
