There seems to be some confusion regarding dating these. Many sources mention 1962 for this update of indicators, it seems to be mixed up with the upgraded engine that came in Oct-62 for 1963 models. The lights and wipers were changed in Oct-63 for 1964 models. Detailed info here, I hope it´s correct: http://potteries.mmoc.org.uk/Identify.htm |

I did that, renamed all that were named just Silver Ghost to 40/50 h.p., since that was not an official designation in that period. But I hesitated to move 'Silver Ghost' to extra info on the rest, but I think that would be best since they were only named 40/50 h.p. when new. |

| 1980 Volvo 66 DL Frits en Freddy (2010) | From the details visible it´s at least a 1978, the headrests and the black door mirrors. The stripes are most likely applied later, or by the dealer when the car was new. These stripes came only on the 66 GL and this car bears no sign og being a GL, wrong grille and 14 inch wheels. So I see no reason to doubt that it is actually a 1980 model. | 2011-10-24 17:08 | |
| 1980 Volvo 66 DL Frits en Freddy (2010) | It´s puzzling with those stripes, they belonged to the DAF 66 Marathon and I´ve seen them on some 1976 Volvo 66s also. Maybe they could be had as option later, but I don´t really know. But I don´t think they were on the option list for 78-80 really. | 2011-10-21 21:58 | |

Possibly a 1939 De Soto: http://www.oldcaradvertising.com/DeSoto/1939%20DeSoto/1939%20DeSoto%20Ad-07.html It´s got some high mounted extra lights, and maybe the original headlights have been replaced with more modern round lights. | 1941 Studebaker Champion Custom Cruising Sedan The Lusty Men (1952) |

| 1985 Mercedes-Benz [W124] Teresa (1987) | That´s correct, they were introduced late in 1984 as 1985 models, on some markets not sold until 1986 modelyear. | 2011-10-17 23:14 | |
| 1973 SAAB 99 2.0 L Tommy (1975) | Indeed, introduced for 1974 models. I only checked for colors at first, so it would be a 1973 only. I can´t think of any other color that could match this one on 1971-72 models, even it might be a bit distorted. | 2011-10-17 22:01 | |
| 1973 SAAB 99 2.0 L Tommy (1975) | Headrests were not mandatory on all markets. They were also easy to remove before 1974 model when they became integrated on the 99 models. | 2011-10-17 21:50 | |
| 1973 SAAB 99 2.0 L Tommy (1975) | The color seems to be brown, so it would be 1973-75 and only available in L trim. | 2011-10-17 21:22 | |
| 1912 Rolls-Royce 40/50 h.p. 'Silver Ghost' Open Drive Limousine Festival of Transport (1996) |
My knowledge on Rolls-Royce is rather shallow, but after browsing my books and the net about Silver Ghosts I found that the AX 201 was part of a sort of pre-series built during 1907. These cars were thoroughly tested to ensure that the cars delivered to customers were reliable. From what I can find this car was also named Silver Ghost from the start and that there were other names applied on other test vehicles. The Silver Ghost entered in several rallies and soon became famous and written about in the press, soon the name became connected to the production vehicles that reached customers from september 1907 and on. But Rolls-Royce didn´t acknowledge that name until production had ceased in 1925, so it seems to be a semi-official nickname applied in retrospect. If these facts are correct, a solution on grouping these cars could be: Since the AX 201 was a pre-series it´s category could be changed to proto/concept instead of convertible, and the name Silver Ghost could be entered without '' surrounding it since it was given that name from the beginning. The production cars could be grouped together as just 40/50 hp. With 'Silver Ghost' like it is now, in the model field, or maybe better moved to extra info like most other nicknames are treated. -- Last edit: 2011-10-17 08:49:42 |

But we do not have a body style box, we only have "Extra Info" for various excessive information that can´t be squeezed in the Model box. Often this contains trimlevels, enginesize or bodystyles. All of these can also be found in the Model box when the manufacturers name them only like that, there´s no difference between them really, they just refer to something of the car. Common with others, and it´s only bodystyles that you attack. Why is that? I don´t wish you to be removed, I see that you provide with a lot of knowledge on old cars. But I don´t understand your attitude towards history and historical documents, it for sure isn´t easy to deal with it, but just rejecting all original documents is very strange. There´s many times a difference between what cars basically are and what they´re called, we have lots of platform based models barely differentiated by their badges. And there´s a variety of cars renamed from market to market. The tradition here has for a long time been to find the correct commercial names for them, this should of course include even oddities from the early days of motoring, and brandnames that often are overlooked. Otherwise we´re rewriting history, and it´s also inconsistent if only some cars can be named like the manufacturers intended. The problem with similar/identical cars named differently has been discussed before and there will be a solution for that in the coming upgraded version of this site. It´s a far better way to deal with the problem in finding ways to connect that info, rather than just cutting it out and deleting it. -- Last edit: 2011-10-15 11:14:52 |

1935-1938 Dodge came with one engine and trimlevel only, Dodge named them only by their body styles on homemarket.
